The resort gets its name from the Hindu ruler "Hammir" of Ranthambore. The reminders of this ruler's successful reign can be found dotted all across the Ranthambore fort.

The Hammir wildlife resort is ideally located on the main Ranthambore road at a comfortable distance from the park as well as from the neighbouring town of Sawai Madhopur. It offers good facilities and the service is hospitable. The rooms are clean and comfortable. They offer an option between air-conditioned and air-cooled rooms and cottages. For the TV buffs, every room also has its own set with a multi-channel cable connection.

The rooms are clean and their colours offer a flavour of Rajasthan

The resort has sprawling lawns front and back, which are ideal for winter morning breakfasts and for general lazing around between all the hectic activity at the park. The resort terraces are also huge and offers a view all the way to the town of Sawai Madhopur. Sitting there in the evenings with your refreshments takes away all the tiredness resulting from the action packed days.

Overseas calls can be made from the room or at the reception
All the rooms also have their own telephone connections. Making overseas calls is not a problem and a simple request to the staff at the reception is all that is required. The resort has a dining hall that is air-cooled during the summer months. It can accommodate up to 80 persons at a time.

For visitors interested in a bit of the local flavour, the resort management arranges for activities such as camel rides, puppet shows and Rajasthani dances around a lovely bonfire. Local sightseeing tours are also arranged on request. The resort has its own small souvenir shop, which offers a decent range of items that can be bought as reminders of the visit or as gifts to take back home.
